chool is out for the summer in the Queen City and the Manchester Board of School Committee (BOSC) is about to slow down for the summer as well, but not before a presentation on a new concept that will welcome back students and families when they return in the fall.

In celebration of excellence and innovation in student journalism, the prestigious Brodsky Prize has announced its 2024 winners, spotlighting the state’s most promising high school journalists. The Prize, in its seventh year, rewards students who exhibit journalistic initiative, enterprise, and what the co-founder, the late Jeffrey Brodsky, described as “a contrarian nature and out-of-the-box thinking.”

Manchester School of Technology Principal Timothy Otis reflected on where his 61 graduates started and how far they’d come as he prepared to launch the Class of 2o24 – the first of four graduations taking place Saturday at the SNHU Arena, and ninth graduating class from the city’s technical high school.
At the June 10 Board of School Committee meeting the Manchester School District recognized the 40 staff members who are retiring this year. For most, their careers will close out as the school year comes to an end this week.

The public comment period on the proposed changes to the minimum standards – known as the 306 rules – came to a close April 30. A total of 204 written testimonies were sent to the state Board of Education and made public on the department’s website. All except one of the 204 written accounts were in opposition to the current revisions.

Manchester Proud, an organization working to champion student success within the Manchester School District through community engagement and community partnerships, presented its 2024 Student Volunteer Awards at the Tuesday, May 26, Board of School Committee meeting. The 3rd Annual awards were presented to four high school students. The award, which includes a $500 prize, was created to recognize Manchester School District students who show exceptional commitment to volunteerism.
I spent about 19 years as an educator in Massachusetts where the demographic is a little different. I think, right now, I am one of three administrators of color in the Manchester school district. One of the first questions I was asked during my job interview was ‘You’re going to be the first person that walks these halls as a black male administrator. How does that make you feel?’ All I could think of was the weight of being the first – what if I fail?
Sixteen teams from New Hampshire were among the over 600 teams from around the US and the World competing at Destination Imagination Global Finals this week in Kansas City, MO. Global Finals culminates a year in which teams must solve one of six complex STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) or Service Learning Challenges. Following Saturday night’s award ceremony, two New Hampshire teams are now among the best in the World.
The New Hampshire Department of Education is pleased to announce the 15 semi-finalists for the 2025 New Hampshire Teacher of the Year Award. The teachers were selected from a total of 251 nominees and 76 applicants.
The grant award will support the work of more than 150 AmeriCorps members who will engage in service across the state. AmeriCorps members will support social and emotional development efforts for youth, academic support, youth mentorship, and conservation stewardship to publicly accessible lands in New Hampshire.
