Historically, miracles have involved the divine production of fish and loaves to feed the hungry. In these times, miracles come wrapped in team work and are shaped like a tractor-trailer transport full of food and supplies that just might include some canned fish and sliced bread.

Our immediate challenge is this: complying with CDC recommendations such as social distancing, isolation and quarantine is impossible for people experiencing homelessness. While some smaller shelters may have 1 or 2 spaces available for some sort of isolation, most shelters simply do not have the extra space availability to appropriately isolate those who may be highly vulnerable or symptomatic and awaiting test results.

A Greater Manchester Alternative Care Site, set up in 72 hours for an anticipated surge in COVID-19 patients, was possible because of plans put into place by the city’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) consisting of the mayor’s office and the city’s health, fire and police departments.

Under Governor Sununu’s Executive Order #2, all on-site dining in the state of New Hampshire is prohibited until April 6. However, many of Manchester’s restaurants are adapting to meet the times. Manchester Ink Link reached out to dozens of these restaurants to see if they’re open or closed, how customers can get their food, if they’ve modified their hours or menus, and any other pertinent information we could dig up.
