12 NH nonprofits win Bangor Savings grants, thanks to community voters

Bangor Savings Bank’s newest branch opened in Manchester on Baker Street in January 2023.

BANGOR, Maine – A dozen New Hampshire nonprofits are among the Bangor Savings Bank Foundation Community Matters More 2023 grant recipients, which were announced Tuesday.

The foundation will distribute more than $140,000 to 32 Maine and 12 New Hampshire nonprofits, after community residents voted throughout February for their favorites. The Community Matters More program aims to highlight local nonprofits that have a positive impact in their communities by inviting residents to decide grant winners through online voting, bank officials said.

Grant recipients are divided by region – there are four in New Hampshire – and the nonprofit with the highest number of votes in each region gets a $5,000 grant, with runners-up and write-in winners getting $1,000 to $4,000.

“Maine and New Hampshire communities are vibrant and resourceful, which shows in their support of the organizations they see making a positive impact,” Bob Montgomery-Rice, president and CEO, said in a news release Tuesday. “We’re proud to enable thousands of residents to have a voice in where grants are given, and community members are passionate about advocating for the organizations that are important to them. This is their opportunity to give back.”

Bangor Savings Bank has eight branches in New Hampshire, in Amherst, Colebrook, Concord, Manchester and Portsmouth, including its newest location at 170 Baker St., in Manchester, which opened in January. It has 59 branches in Maine and one in Massachusetts.
