MANCHESTER,ย NH – A ragingย fire swept through two apartmentย buildings on the city’s West Side Sunday, causing heavy damage, displacing more than a dozenย occupants, and injuring four firefighters.

Chief James Burkush said a building at 178 Second St. was destroyed and left structurally unsound by the blaze, and a second apartment building next door which caught fire appears to be a total loss.

Crews responded to the fire at aboutย 12:30 p.m. Aug. 2. where two occupied buildings were heavily involved in flames. Burkush said it appears the fireย originated on the back porch. On Aug. 3 fire officials issued a press release saying the cause of the fire remained under investigation.ย

The Red Cross is assisting seven families, totaling 17 people, displaced by the fire who’ve lost everything.

Four firefighters were injured fighting the fire, but none of them were seriously injured, Burkush said.

WMUR reports a vehicle parked outside the building caught fire and burst into flames.

St. Raphael Parish, 103 Walker Street will be collecting donations ofย food, linens, household goods, ย and furnitureย beginning Aug. 3 betweenย 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.
