1 from NH dead, 4 injured Monday in serious NJ crash

MANCHESTER, NH โ€“ Five New Hampshire residents were seriously injured Monday when their vehicle crashed on New Jersey’s Interstate 78.

One of the victims, Jessey Philbin, of Derry, has since died, according to Pauline Proulx, of Bedford, NH, whose nephew Justin Proulx, and family were among those injured.

According to coverage of the story on NJ.com, Justin Proulx, 25, of Manchester, was behind the wheelย  of a 2001 Subaru Forester traveling east on Interstate 78 at 6 p.m. when he lost control of the vehicle, which overturned in the left lane. The vehicle rolled over into the median and over the center guardrail, stopping in the median on the westbound side of the roadway, according to New Brunswick Police spokesman Sgt. Jeff Flynn.

Justin Proulx, along with passengers Jessey Philbin, 17, of Derry, Proulx’s step-brother; Krystal Kula, 24, Proulx’s fiancรฉe, and their son, 4-year-old Kaiden Proulx, both of Manchester, were flown to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. Their other son, Landon Proulx, 2, of Manchester, was taken by ambulance to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.

Philbin and Kaiden Proulx were thrown from the vehicle, police said.

Pauline Proulx said Wednesday that her nephew Justin Proulx, had surgery Tuesday night. He and Kaiden Proulx were still listed in critical condition. Krystal Kula and Landon Proulx remained in stable condition.

Pauline Proulx said the group was traveling home from Florida.

“Justin’s dad passed away in February. It’s been a rough couple of months, needless to say,” his aunt said.

The crash backed up traffic for several miles in both directions.
