Department of Corrections Recognizes its Own

ONCORD, NH –  New Hampshire Department of Corrections Commissioner Helen Hanks and Assistant Commissioner Benjamin Jean presented annual awards to employees of the Secure Psychiatric Unit/Residential Treatment Unit.  The following employees were recognized with special plaques.

The Corrections Officer of the Year is Corrections Sergeant Eric Barbaro. He was cited for his “can do attitude” and for his exemplary ability to provide direction and guidance to all security and civilian staff in all facets of the unit.

The Civilian Employee of the Year is Recreational Therapist Deanna Hutchins who has been a valuable asset to the SPU/RTU Team for ten years. She makes sure all of the recreational activities are carried out and she was thanked for her consistent hard work and dedication to the unit.

The Team of the Year is the SPU Security Team on all three shifts.  Their great resiliency and dedication to the successful daily operations of the unit and their flexibility and willingness to accomplish the mission of the unit were noted during the presentation.

Commissioner Hanks took the opportunity to thank all of the employees at the facility for their dedication to duty and public service.

Commissioner Hanks said, “We are recognizing specific employees today but everyone who works at the SPU/RTU plays an important role in the success of the Department’s mission. You are elite professionals with a passion for your work. It is an honor to work with you all every day to improve the lives of those under our care. Your impact on the lives of families in NH is significant. Our positive impacts on these patients have resounding effects to our communities.”
