June 14: Brady Sullivan’s annual massive flag salute set for Flag Day

Flag day 2017 at Mill West!

MANCHESTER, NH – Brady Sullivan Properties will hang a massive 90-by-50-foot flag at Lofts at Mill West on 195 McGregor St. this Thursday, June 14, in honor of Flag Day.

The 225-pound flag is a near-replica of the elusive “Great Flag” which was produced in Manchester by the Amoskeag Manufacturing Company in 1914 and displayed by mill workers at Mill No. 11 in the Manchester Mill Yard. The building has since been completely renovated by Brady Sullivan Properties and is now home to 290 luxury loft apartments and 550,000 SF square feet of commercial space.

Widely regarded as the largest flag ever made in its day, the last publicized sighting of the original Great Flag was at a parade in New York City in May of 1916. The flag vanished following the parade, and its whereabouts have been unknown ever since.

Now in its second year, Brady Sullivan hopes that the annual Flag Day display will be a local tradition of community spirit for many years to come.

“It is our hope that in this time of political discord and negative news, that this annual display of patriotism will help bring people together in our community, to celebrate the rich history of our great city,” says Arthur Sullivan, of Brady Sullivan Properties.

The flag is hung from special rigging installed on the building by Manchester-based company First Sign, Inc. According to First Sign owner Scott Aubertin, it takes his crew nearly four hours to hang the flag due to its size and weight.

“I think it’s really great that Brady Sullivan is doing this every year,” says Aubertin. “It’s an amazing contribution to the community and we are really proud to be part of it.”

The public is invited to view the flag on the highway side of the Lofts at Mill West until Sunday, June 17. Brady Sullivan is also holding a Facebook photo contest where the public is invited to post their photos with the flag to the company’s Facebook page for a chance to win a prize.
