2 DPW workers injured in morning shooting, suspect ‘known’ to one of the workers


MANCHESTER, NH โ€“ย Manchester Police are investigating a Thursday morning shooting that took place in the area of Manchester andย  Union streets.

At about 2 p.m. the police issued a statement jointly with Mayor Jay Ruais, updating previous information to include that the two victims of the shooting are city employees.

“At approximately 9:20 a.m., two Manchester Department of Public Works employees wereย  walking on a sidewalk when they were approached by a man known to one of them. For reasonsย  that remain under investigation, the man pulled out a gun and fired at the two employees. Bothย  men suffered non-life-threatening injuries,” the updated press release reads.

Police continue to search for the suspect adding, “there is noย  information at this time to suggest there is an ongoing threat to the public.”

Several roads were initially closed but they have since reopened.  

โ€œI remain in close contact with the Manchester Police Department and Department of Public  Works regarding today’s incident,โ€ says Mayor Jay Ruais. โ€œI have been informed that the victims  are home and recovering. I want to extend my deepest gratitude to our first responders and city  employees. Our thoughts remain with those affected, and we are grateful for the positive news  regarding the victims’ recovery.โ€
