MANCHESTER, NH – Join your friends and neighbors for a discussion on autism at the Currier Museum of Art, 150 Ash St., on Tuesday, April 7, 2015, from 5:30-8:30 p.m.
The event is sponsored by Parenting NH Magazine.
A keynote speaker and a panel of experts will explore how autism impacts children and their families. Experts will discus current treatments and resources that are available in New Hampshire for those living with autism. Statistically, 1-in-68 American children is on the autism spectrum.
Parents, caregivers, teachers, special education administrators and others interested in networking and learning about the resources available are welcome. The Keynote Speaker is Bill Drover, father of 13-year-old twin boys, one of whom has autism. Drover wrote “Stumbling Upon the Extraordinary.” His inspiring memoir is filled with raw emotion, providing a look into a family’s life surrounded by love and laughter, but shadowed by the mysteries of autism.
Panelists include: Liz Feingold, Brian Huckins, & Nina Sand-Loud, MD.
Brian Huckins volunteers for the Governor’s Council to study Autism Spectrum Disorders, The council developed Connor’s Law, NH Autism Registry and numerous localized resources for NH.
Elizabeth Feingold, special services coordinator at Kearsarge Regional High School in North Sutton, has been a special education teacher since 1984. She has developed a number of new programs for special education students. She also consults and collaborates with faculty, parents, staff and students on all aspects of special education, with a particular focus on mental health, suicide prevention and learning style differences. Since 2012, Elizabeth has written the “Learning Curve” column for Parenting NH.
Dr. Nina Sand-Loud is an assistant professor of pediatrics at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Her specialty is developmental and behavioral pediatrics.
