MANCHESTER, NH – The bigger they are, the harder they fall.
Police had a difficult time placing Edward Siudut, 39, of Pittsfield, under arrest Feb. 17 – in part, because he was combative.
Also, because he is 6-foot-6 and more than 300 pounds.
According to a police narrative of the incident, Officers Michael DeJoy and Ryan Heile responded to the 18 Prospect St. for an unknown disturbance. Upon arrival, they encountered Siudut outside the residence arguing with a woman.
Police spoke to Siudut who at that point was attempting to enter a parked vehicle. Police say Siudut immediately became combative, refusing to cooperate with the officers as he continually reached into his pocket. Officers asked him several times to keep his hands in plain view, but he refused.
The officers tried to pat down Siudut when he allegedly became combative and uncooperative. A struggle ensued and Siudut was taken to the ground. Based on his size, officers had a difficult time placing handcuffs on Siudut. An off-duty Nashua Police Officer, Ryan McDermott, who happened to be in the area, assisted in the arrest. Sgt. Matt Larochelle arrived to the scene and ultimately used his department issued taser to subdue Siudut.
Siudut remained confrontational and refused to comply with the arresting officers. A subsequent search revealed Siudut was in possession of a controlled drug (6 grams of marijuana) and a pipe commonly used to smoke marijuana.
He was charged with resisting arrest/detention and possession of a controlled drug. He was released on $1,000 personal recognizance bail and will appear in District Court on March 25.
