NASHUA, NH โ€“ The genre-defying duo Black Violin brings a one-of-a-kind musical experience to the Nashua Center for the Arts on Feb. 21. For more than two decades, violinist Kev Marcus and violist Wil Baptiste have fused rich classical training with the hard-hitting rhythms of hip-hop, jazz, funk and modern beats to create a sound that transcends categories and connects with audiences of all ages.

Hailing from Fort Lauderdale, the pair first met in orchestra class at Dillard High School and went on to pursue classical music through college โ€” only to discover their true voice when they began layering string arrangements over contemporary beats. Their breakthrough came in 2005 when they won Showtime at the Apolloโ€™s legendary stage, launching a career thatโ€™s taken them worldwide and led to sold-out headlining runs, including a two-night stand at the Kennedy Center.

The groupโ€™s boundary-pushing work has earned them Grammy Award nominations โ€” including for their 2019 album Take the Stairs and their collaboration โ€œThe Messageโ€ โ€” and praise from critics like NPR, which credited them with helping keep classical music alive for a new generation. On stage, Black Violin is more than a concert: itโ€™s an energizing celebration of music, culture and possibility that invites listeners to experience how tradition and innovation can beat as one.
