MANCHESTER, N.H. – A quartet of New Hampshire Fisher Cat pitchers combined to give the Fisher Cats their fourth shutout of the year on Tuesday night, a 3-0 victory over the Bowie Bay Sox.
Nate Pearson, Willy Ortiz, Jake Fishman and Ty Tice allowed just four Bowie hits all night, meaning that New Hampshire’s early runs in the first and second were more than enough to achieve the win despite the fact that New Hampshire could not obtain another hit after the second inning.
Santiago Espinal obtained two RBI on the night, both singles bringing in Forrest Wall and Chad Spanberger in the first and second innings respectively. Spanberger’s double also brought Kevin Smith across the plate in the second.
In addition to the pair of hits by Espinal and the Spanberger double, Smith also recorded a double and Wall provided his third triple of the year.
That hit put Wall’s current hitting streak up to 15 games.
Ortiz (1-3) was the winner, pitching five innings of long relief after the departure of Nate Pearson. Dean Kremer (0-3) was the loser, lasting six innings and striking out five Fisher Cats while walking two.
Tice earned his fourth save of the year for his spotless ninth.
The series continues on Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. RHP Yennsy Diaz (4-4, 4.02 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Fisher Cats against Bowie LHP Bruce Zimmerman (1-1, 2.94 ERA).
