Two Manchester brothers, known to be involved in alleged gang activity here were arrested in Nashua Aug. 27 after a shooting incident on Pratt Street in Nashua.
Nashua Police arrested brothers Darrius Weekly, 20, ofย 38 Orange Street, Apt. 1, Manchester, and Darrion Weekly, 19, of 219 Notre Dame Avenue, Apt. 3N, Manchester,ย early Wednesday morningย after they allegedly fired shots at people on Pratt Street in Nashua, breaking a window of a residence on that street, and hitting and injuring one of the people on the street.
No one was injured in the shooting, police said.
At about 2:45 a.m. on Aug. 27 a Nashua officer on patrol heard what he believed to be three gunshots. Seconds later he saw a white Dodge Avenger speed through the stop sign at Pratt and Main streets, turning onto Main and heading north. The officer pulled over the vehicle and was assisted by other officers in the call.
As police were questioning the occupants of the vehicle, identified as the Weekly brothers, three people approached police to say that they had just been shot at by someone in the white Dodge while standing in the area of 10-12 Pratt St.
Members of the Nashua Criminal Investigation Division determined that thereย were initially four occupants of the Dodgeย when the vehicle wasย onย Pratt Street. Two of the occupantsย exited the vehicle, and were standing on the sidewalk when shots were fired at them from the vehicle. A bullet wentย through the window of 12 Pratt Street, where residents were home but not injured. One of the individuals who had exited the vehicleย sustained a broken arm after he had been accidentally run over by the vehicle he had gotten out of as theย driver tried to leave the area, police said.
Nashua Police are investigating the relationship between the Weeklys and the others involved.
Darrius and Darrion Weekly wereย arraigned in the 9th Circuit Court, Nashua Division on August 28, 2014.
Manchester Police Sgt. Brian O’Keefe said the ย brothers have been under close watch by the Manchester Police Department in recent months due to their alleged involvement in gang activity within the Queen City. Manchester Police responded to a large brawl in March of 2014 and as a result of the investigation, police determined the two rival groups were in fact claiming to be affiliated with opposing gangs.ย Darrius Weekly was charged by Manchester Police with one count of riot and one count of second-degree assault.
Since then, police have “ramped up efforts to identify and interview each and every alleged member of the two rival gangs,” O’Keefe said.
In addition, Chief David Mara hasย implemented a nightly special patrol to deal with the presence of gang rivalries before they escalate, O’Keefe said.
