New Hampshire will receive $3,332,762 over five years from the multistate settlement.  Under a state law enacted last year, the proceeds from this settlement will be deposited into a fund that will be used to abate problems caused by opioids. This is the first multi-state opioid settlement to result in substantial payment to the states to address the epidemic.

Attorney General Gordon J. MacDonald issues a scam alert for New Hampshire residents, especially its older adult population, concerning new and concerning tactics being employed by scammers in perpetrating the “Grandparent Scam.” 

The Attorney General is urging all New Hampshire residents to be vigilant against fraud schemes related to the unemployment program, citing some 6,000 cases of fraudulent claims filed in NH using stolen identities.

The mailers, received by voters around New Hampshire, were not sent out by local city and town halls, according to the Attorney General’s office.

Be aware that scammers are able to “ghost” or utilize what appear to be trusted telephone numbers, including those of government agencies and law enforcement. As a result, even if it appears that the telephone number is familiar or is from a reliable source, the Attorney General’s Office advises all to be cautious and aware of the potential that it may be a scam call.

Honda has agreed to pay the participating states more than $84 million, of which New Hampshire’s share is $1,013,119.81. Honda has also agreed to pay $1 million to the National Association of Attorneys General, which facilitated and assisted in this multistate investigation.

Since his arrest, Mr. Munstis underwent a competency evaluation by the Office of the Forensic Examiner. Dr. Shannon Bader concluded that Mr. Munstis was not competent to stand trial and not restorable.
