With New Hampshire facing a 43.9% statewide increase in food insecurity, the New Hampshire Food Bank is mobilizing efforts to fight back against hunger across the state. Feeding America, a nationwide network of food banks, food pantries and local meal programs, recently released its “Map the Meal Gap 2024” report, which notes more than 135,200 New Hampshire residents are food insecure—a year-over-year increase of more than 41,000 individuals or 43.9%.

The New Hampshire Food Bank was recently awarded more than $660,000 to expand access to fresh produce for those who are food insecure in New Hampshire. The funding will be used to increase access to nutritious food with the opening of four new retail locations, two new farmers markets and a pilot community supported agriculture program, which will link participants directly with local food producers.

The Bedford Knights of Columbus and members of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Bedford recently joined together to raise more than $12,000 during their 2022 Turkey Drive to support the New Hampshire Food Bank, a program of Catholic Charities New Hampshire. The Bedford Knights of Columbus, Council 12988, spearheads this annual food drive, which included contributions from the parish community of St. Elizabeth Seton Church and several other organizations and businesses.

With the need continuing to rise, the New Hampshire Food Bank and volunteers from the New Hampshire Army National Guard 3643rd Brigade Support Battalion will host a drive-through mobile food pantry today, Friday, August 7, 1 p.m., at the Comcast Parking Lot, 676 Island Pond Road, in Manchester.
