The homeless man accused in the stabbing death of a 75-year-old man near Nutts Pond should not have been out of jail given his two prior arrests, the victim’s granddaughter said Tuesday.
A man was found dead on the trail at Nutts Pond Friday morning and while authorities described it as a “suspicious death,” a resident said he was stabbed to death.
The father and step-mother of 5-year-old murder victim Harmony Montgomery are under indictment on more charges, he as an armed career criminal and she for allegedly lying before a Grand Jury.
Assistant County Attorney Thomas Craig, in a statement, said Bryant committed a “horrendous and violent act which demanded a serious penalty. This sentence provides justice for the victim in this case. With this plea there will be no appeal.”
The state is questioning whether Kayla Montgomery is abiding by bail conditions that order her not to use drugs and also participate in a drug treatment program after police had contact with her in three incidents in August where drugs were seized.

The people being evicted are some of the city’s neediest. Some are elderly, others are on Social Security Disability Income, and some apartments were subsidized housing. The rent hikes in the subsidized apartments exceeded what Section 8 allows and so those tenants were essentially evicted as well.
Housing code regulations enforced in the city are minimum standards designed to protect health and safety, according to a building department official. They do not necessarily address what an average person would consider abysmal conditions within an apartment.
