ABLE NH recently recognized two esteemed legislators, Sen. Denise Ricciardi, R-Bedford, and State Rep. Kathy Staub, D-Manchester, as recipients of the Disability Justice Champion Awards. The awards were presented at the highly anticipated “Soaring to the Stars” event, on April 13, 2024, at the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center, which celebrated advocates in the field of disability justice.

The Queen City Chess Club meets Tuesday evenings at the YMCA in downtown Manchester at 6 p.m. The tournament is U.S. Chess Federation-rated. The format is four rounds of play, one game per week for four weeks each month. Time control is 45 minutes per side with a 5-second increment per move.

Actors Cooperative Theatre (ACT), winner of two NHTA Awards and 17 Top Ten will stage, “The Trail To Oregon!” April 19-28 with six shows at the Derry Opera House. The play is an original by StarKid Productions, the innovative force behind viral hits such as  “A Very Potter Musical” and “Twisted: The Untold Story of a Royal Vizier,” and they’ve knocked it out of the park again with this hilarious work.

The New Hampshire Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (NHANA) announced their endorsement of Executive Councilor Cinde Warmington for Governor. NHANA provides continuing education programs for the advancement of patient safety and practice excellence as a local resource for their 200+ members in New Hampshire. NHANA is the state chapter of the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (AANA), which is the professional association representing more than 50,000 Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) and student nurse anesthetists nationwide.

The Diocese of Manchester, the Roman Catholic Church in New Hampshire, on Wednesday added three priests to its list of clergy accused of sexual abuse of a minor as part of its continuing effort and commitment to protecting children and young people. This is the first addition to the Restoring Trust website since its inception in 2019. The information, assignment histories, and additional resources are available at catholicnh.org/restoringtrust.

In recognition of Financial Literacy Month, Citizens on April 9 announced $35,000 in financial empowerment grants to support two New Hampshire nonprofit organizations as part of the bank’s Citizens Helping Citizens Manage Money program. Through funding and volunteerism, Citizens will support local financial literacy partners that provide training to empower communities to achieve financial wellness and build brighter futures.
