MANCHESTER, NH โย An early-morning porch fire on Laurel Street has left 15 people displaced. The cause of the fire was determined to be improper disposal of smoking materials.
According to the preliminary report issued by Manchester Fire Depertment, the fire was reported at 3:42 a.m. at 172 Laurel Street, originating on the third-floor porch.
Companies from the Merrimack Street Station arrived first and found theย third-floor porch fully involved with fire. Car 1 assumed Laurel Street Command and struck theย second alarm for additional resources. Companies worked to control and contain the fire whileย the building was searched for occupants.
Crews from multiple stations in the city worked toย extinguish the fire and limit fire spread throughout the cockloft, bringing the fire under controlย at 0412. Eleven adults and four children were routed by the fire, all of whom were able to exit the home escaping injuries. They are currently being assisted by the Red Cross. The buildingย sustained smoke and water damage, with heavy damage to the third-floor apartment.ย
