Central’s Barber a triple winner at NHWTL meet


DURHAM, NH โ€“ Central High senior Harriet Barber turned in a dominant performance Saturday, claiming three gold medals at the at the Division 1 New Hampshire Winter Track League (NHWTL) meet at the University of New Hampshire’s Sweet Oval.

Barber owned the spring events, winning the 55m in a time of 7.37 seconds before absolutely destroying the field in the 300m. Her winning time of 40.63 second was nearly four seconds ahead of runner-up Avery Timerman of Portsmouth (44.44). To put Barber’s margin of victory in perspective, the 11th-place runner was only 1.98 seconds behind Timerman.

Barber capped her spectacular day by anchoring Central’s winning 4x160m relay team (1:30.12). The Little Green squad also included Tiana Mann, Angela Cenesca and Ava Becker.

Central also got a solid day from Kaedin Gagne, who placed third in the 300m in 39.29 and eighth in the long jump with a best leap of 18-01.75. Gagne also anchored the sixth place 4x160m relay team (1:20.74), which included Wyatt Foguere, Ethan Cenesca and Sean Venator.

Trinity

Trinity only had a handful of athletes participating but they made their presence felt in a big way. Senior Nehemiah Oyaronbi led the way, winning the 55m in a time of 6.61 seconds and placing second in the 300m in a time of 38.97.

Rere Edokpolo also had a big day, winning the high jump with a best jump of 6-02 and placing second in the long jump with a best leap of 19-08.

Memorial

Memorial placed athletes in the Top 6 in several events. Leading the way was junior Chase Burris, who won the long jump with a best leap of 20-02.75.

Elliot Krantz used a strong kick down the stretch to take second in the girls’ 1500m in a time of 5:33.91.

Victoria Ford was fourth in the 55m hurdles in 9.68 and Owen Davis placed fourth in the 1500m in 4:27.73.

David Leonard was fifth in the high jump with a best leap of 5-06. Hannah Roderiguez was fifth in the long jump with a best leap of 14-09.ย Jordan Courter was sixth in the girls’ 300m in 45.76. Zakayla Beaton was sixth in the shot put with a best toss of 29-06.

Memorial’s girls’ 4×160 relay team of Courter, Ford, Rodriguez and Ayomide Sanni placed fourth in 1:31.09

West

Manchester West was well represented by junior Eshaya Lauder. She placed second in the high jump with a best jump of 4-10.00 and placed second in the long jump with a best leap of 16-07.00.
