Amidst all of the divisive rhetoric that seems to consume every minute of the news cycle, I was so glad to see real progress made in the US House on Thursday. On Thursday afternoon, the House voted to pass the Lower Drug Costs Now Act (H.R. 3), a bill which our Congressman Chris Pappas co-sponsored!
Congressman Pappas told us that healthcare would be a priority of his once he took office, and he has made good on that promise. His leadership on H.R. 3 is just the most recent example of him fighting for better healthcare for all of us.
Earlier this year, Chris co-sponsored and helped to pass several other bills including the Protecting Pre-Existing Conditions & Making Health Care Affordable Act and the Medicare Prescription Drug Price Negotiation Act.
And, in addition to being a key sponsor on H.R. 3, Chris wrote an important provision of the bill that makes it easier for low income seniors to afford their medication. Currently, many seniors who are eligible for prescription drug subsidies do not know they qualify for such monetary assistance. Chrisโs provision will automatically enroll eligible seniors in these benefits.
Although we disagree on a lot, I think we can all agree that no one should be forced to choose between paying their rent and the cost of their insulin. H.R. 3 takes a step closer to a reality where no one has to make this choice.
