MANCHESTER, NH – Cindy (Rodenhauser) Stewart officially declared her candidacy for Manchester School Board At-Large. A recently retired nonprofit development professional, Stewart brings decades of experience and a deep commitment to public service to her first-ever run for elected office.
Over the course of her career, Stewart held leadership roles at respected organizations including Waypoint and New Hampshire Public Radio (NHPR). Now, she is turning her focus to Manchester’s public schools.
“Manchester is New Hampshire’s largest and most diverse school district. The schools reflect the vibrant, complex reality of our Manchester community, something we should be proud of. I want to understand how we can better support our students, teachers, administrators, and families, because I believe we can and we should,” Stewart states.
Stewart emphasized the urgent need to stand up for public education, noting growing challenges at all levels of government.
“Public education is under brutal attack at the federal, state, and local levels, and it is a dangerous threat to our future and the overall well-being of our community. I am driven to pursue public service out of genuine concern, and a deep belief in public education as a pillar of democracy.”
Stewart and her husband, Tom “Stew” Stewart—a retired educator with over 40 years of experience at Monadnock Regional High School—have lived in Manchester since 2018. Between them, they have six children who all graduated from New Hampshire public schools, and seven of their nine grandchildren will/do attend NH public schools.
“I am unapologetically pro-public schools. I have a heart for service and for kids, and an urgent desire to direct my energy to listening, learning, and working toward informed, equitable solutions that build stronger, more just educational outcomes for all.”
