MANCHESTER, NH – The Manchester Fire Department adopted eight families this year, with a combined total of 14 children that were identified as families in need, continuing the annual Adopt-a-Family tradition by purchasing presents and a holiday meal for children who would otherwise go without.
This program is separate from the recently concluded Operation Warm coat drive.
There is no fundraising involved other than the donations made by members of the Manchester Fire Department, both of cash and tangible goods.
Volunteers from the fire department and their families , armed with the children’s wish lists, shopped for requested items, and then some.
Gifts were collected, sorted, wrapped and then delivered to each family on Dec. 22, while the kids were in school.
In addition, other city department workers adopted local families this year, including employees from the library, information systems and the tax collectors office. This brings the total number of adopted families citywide to 11 who were on the receiving end of some much-needed Christmas cheer.
