MANCHESTER, NH – A would-be robber was scared off by a clerk at AMT Market who carries a big stick.

Leo Rochon, 34, Manchester, was arrested following the robbery attempt which unfolded at about 5 p.m. when police were dispatched for an armed robbery call to the market at 384 Massabesic St.

The clerk, Abdul Chaudary told police a man brandishing a knife, later identified as Rochon, entered his store and demanded cash while brandishing a knife.

Unfortunately for the would be robber, Chaudary pulled out a large stick and raised it above his head. His actions scared Rochon away, who fled the store empty-handed.

Chaudary continued to chase the robber outside on to the street and even struck him with the stick at least once. Chaudary’s friend, Tariq Mahmoud, assisted Chaudary by calling 911.

Chaudary eventually returned to the store and spoke with Mahmoud. The would be robber walked back toward the store several minutes later, so Chaudary ran outside for a second time to confront him. However, Chaudary noticed the person was no longer wearing a jacket and sunglasses. Multiple police officers arrived on scene as both the robber and Chaudary were outside the store.

Rochon was charged with attempted robbery and falsifying physical evidence. He was due to appear in the 9th Circuit Court-Manchester Wednesday morning.
