Maureen Beauregard described this as a “sad day” at Farnum Center. As CEO and President, it has been difficult to share the news that they are ending in-patient treatment for those seeking recovery from substance abuse after years of being a major provider in the state of New Hampshire.
Easterseals New Hampshire is proud to announce Molly Barufaldi, a Medical Detox Registered Nurse in its substance use treatment services program, as the 2024 recipient of The DAISY Award® For Extraordinary Nurses.
Easterseals NH will also be divesting of its Maine affiliate organization and ending its military and veteran services at its Vermont affiliate.
Tim Hartnett has been named interim Executive Director of Farnum Center, following the news on Tuesday that Cheryl Wilkie had left the organization.
“They really are a well-oiled machine and very mission-driven people,” Beauregard said. “Of course everyone is going to miss Cheryl, but things this week are going just as they did last week.”
All providers are facing the difficult choice of having to reduce services, cut the number of treatment beds, layoff staff and require longer wait times for clients if adjustments cannot be made to the Medicaid reimbursement rates currently in place.
Following two high profile visits to New Hampshire by President Donald Trump, Farnum’s leaders hope the next steps include a quick and substantial influx of specific resources to more effectively respond to the opioid epidemic in our state.
The donation is one of the largest single corporate donations the organization has received.
The Farnum Center, a program of Easter Seals New Hampshire, has been named the 2016 recipient of the Excellence in Nonprofit Management Award of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation. The award was presented at the New Hampshire Center for Nonprofit’s annual Leadership Summit on September 23. As the award recipient, the Farnum Center will receive a $5,000 grant.
Substance abuse is a serious issue for returning service members, who struggle with the disease of addiction, and due to financial circumstances, are unable to receive the treatment they need to put them on a path to recovery. This fund will help them through dedicated addiction services at Farnum North.
