A Goffstown man was sentenced to 34 years to life in prison in the 2017 shooting death of Ian Jewell, 18, a Manchester Memorial High School senior, who was shot in the chest in Goffstown during what police call a drug deal gone bad.

The loans that will be canceled were private education loans originated largely between 2002 and 2010 and later defaulted and charged off. Borrowers who qualify for this private loan debt cancellation will receive a notice from Navient in the next few months.  Borrowers do not need to take any action themselves to receive this benefit.

Last year, lawmakers gave the state Department of Health and Human Services until March 1, 2023, to close the Sununu Youth Services Center and relocate the five to 10 juveniles typically detained there. Last week, they killed the bill that would have given the department the money, guidance, and authority to meet that deadline.

On Wednesday, the Manchester Board of School Committee (BOSC) Policy Committee recommended the elimination of health insurance benefits for BOSC members at the beginning of the next term in 2024 as well as a request to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen increase the stipend for BOSC members from $2,000 to $4,000 per year.
