The term “clubhouse” was coined in 1948 when a group of men recently discharged from a mental health facility in New York decided to help each other get back on their feet and integrate into society. When they proved effective at doing so, the men from New York decided to expand their model in a more organized way. Thus, the Pathways Clubhouse system was born.

No, what really and truly galls and angers me is a single sentence, used as the headline for the piece: “What is critical for our community to understand is that relapse is part of the recovery process.” No, my friends, that is exactly what we in the recovery community know to be false, misleading, and potentially fatal for anyone who puts it into practice.

“It is not the relapse that is newsworthy.  What is newsworthy is that there are community-based service providers, like Granite Pathways, that do not judge and are willing to re-engage with individuals in recovery whenever and wherever they are ready.  Every time.”

The focus became youth at risk and the opioid crisis with the board designating $50,000 to Safe Station and another $50,000 to MPAL (Manchester Police Athletic League).  That left $12,000 but the board decided to up that to $30,000 so that Granite Pathways, which operates the Youth Treatment Center at the John H. Sununu Youth Services Center, could get a van to transport the youth to various activities.
