When Karishma Manzur moved to the United States from Bangladesh as a high schooler it wasn’t a choice, but a matter of survival for her family.Â
If elected Manzur will be the first woman senator in the history of America to hold a Ph.D in science, and the second senator ever to have a doctorate in science (the first was Harrison Schmitt of New Mexico). Before deciding to step into politics Manzur spent a lot of her time volunteering for progressive organizations such as Open Democracy, New Hampshire Peace Action, and is a big proponent of ranked choice voting.Â
Both the Republican and Democratic primaries for U.S. Senate in New Hampshire have competitions now that state Sen. Dan Innis and progressive organizer Karishma Manzur have announced campaigns.
