LEBANON, N.H. โ€“ Last week, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center became the first hospital in northern New England with a Neurocritical Care Unit.

The new unit allows care for acutely ill patient requiring advanced neurological services, also providing additional training opportunities for neurological clinicians.

The 10-bed unit will specialize in post-surgery care and treatment for neurological conditions such as epilepsy, Parkinsonโ€™s disease, and vascular abnormalities such as aneurysms.

โ€œThis unit is an important addition to Dartmouth-Hitchcock because it fills a significant care void in our region, and it enhances our ability to expand our training programs,โ€ said Dartmouth-Hitchcock Chief Medical Officer Maria Padin. โ€œIn addition to training clinicians and residents in intensive neurologic care, the new unit will also help us in our journey to include fellowship programs.โ€
