MANCHESTER, NH โ€“ Edward Morin, 51, of Manchester, was arrested Sept. 26, charged withย kicking aย police officer who attempted to take him into protective custody after bar patrons complained Morin was trying to start fights with themย outsideย a downtown bar.

Officer Eric Joyal was patrolling Elm Street just afterย midnight when he was flagged down by a group from the Shaskeen, 909 Elm St., who told him a man who was acting disorderly was trying to start fights with bar patrons.

One of the bar bouncers pointed outย Morin, who was nearย Hanoverย and Elm streets. Morin wasย walking, but ย according to police, he was extremely unsteady on his feet.

Officer Joyal detained Morin and immediately noted thatย he was highly intoxicated and could not care for himself, so Morinย was placed into protective custody. Once handcuffed, Morin allegedly became loud and boisterous while waiting for the arrival of the transport wagon.

Officer Pat Mullen arrived with the transport wagonย andย conducted a search of Morin prior to placing himย into the transport wagon. While doing so, Morin became hostile towards Officer Mullen. Morinย was eventually secured and seat-belted into the back of the wagon, but as Officer Mullenย walked out of the wagon, Morin kicked him on the side of his leg and made derogatory statements towardย Mullen.

Consequently, Morinย was charged with simple assault (on a police officer) and was released on $500 cash/surety bail. A court date was set for October 29, 2014.
