1 dead, 6 injured, driver charged with DWI after Lake Avenue crash

MANCHESTER, NH – Alexander Burke, 31, of Bow, is charged with felony driving while intoxicated after police say he caused the two-vehicle crash early Sunday morning that injured six people and left one person dead.

At about 4:20 a.m.  police, fire, and rescue crews all responded to the intersection of Lake Avenue and Union Street for a crash involving two vehicles – a  2004 Honda Pilot, driven by a 30-year-old male of Manchester, and a 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan operated by Burke.

A passenger in the Honda Pilot suffered fatal injuries. Three other passengers in the Honda Pilot, along with the driver, as well as Burke and a passenger in Burke’s vehicle, were all transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

Burke was placed under arrest for felony driving while intoxicated.

The accident closed Lake Avenue for several hours Sunday morning while the Manchester Police Reconstruction Unit remained on the scene.
