Magical Manchester duo blend psychology, illusion, and audience participation for a one-night-only show.

MANCHESTER, NH — What happens when a magician and a mentalist meet on Elm Street and decide to team up? The result is a bit of good old-fashioned alchemy, a pinch of rivalry and a resulting friendship that is now a full-blown business partnership. Edge of Reality, an immersive night of magic and mind-reading, is coming to The Rex Theatre on Thursday, Nov. 13, 2025, from 7 to 9 p.m.

The show unites two young but polished performers with deep New Hampshire roots — Matt Adamson, known as Matt the Mystic, and DaSean Greene, who performs as Magic Man. Together, they promise an evening of surprises where no one stays a spectator for long.

“Everyone’s going to be involved the entire time,” Adamson said. “We wanted to make sure the whole space is part of the experience.”

For Adamson, 21, the journey began with a fascination for psychology and human behavior. “I’ve always been interested in why people think and act the way they do,” he said. That interest evolved into a practice built around body language, observation, and suggestion — the foundation of mentalism.

Born in North Carolina into a military family, Adamson landed at age 12 in Londonderry and graduated from Londonderry High School in 2022. Once considered shy, he says performing is what changed him. “You can’t do magic in front of a mirror forever. You’ve got to walk up to people — and that changes you.”

“When you’re watching magic, you see something happen in front of you. With mentalism, it happens in your mind — and that makes it feel more impossible.”
Matt Adamson

Greene, 22, was born in Manchester, raised for several years in Atlanta, and later returned to New Hampshire. His connection to magic began at age 8 when his father, then incarcerated, taught him two card tricks. “That sparked my entire obsession,” Greene said.

Last year, he made what he calls a “stupid but brave” choice — betting everything on his dream of a magic career by heading to the West Coast. “If it went well, great. If it didn’t, I’d be homeless,” he said, laughing. The risk paid off, including tour opportunities, a billboard appearance, a ton of new experiences and magic industry connections, and now, a co-headline show on home turf.

He will also be a featured speaker on Oct. 22 for this year’s TEDxAmoskeag Millyard event (also at The Rex).

“It’s not ‘look at us and how cool we are.’ It’s ‘look at all of us and how fun we can all have together.’”

Their collaboration started with curiosity, and a hint of competition. Adamson says he was performing weekends at Soho in downtown Manchester when patrons kept asking if he knew “the Magic Man.” “Every single night, someone mentioned him,” Adamson said.

Eventually, he decided to text Greene directly. Greene responded by saying he, too, had been hearing from clients about this guy doing street magic downtown, and admits his initial reaction was territorial.

“I got scared — like, ‘he’s on my turf!’” Greene recalled. But when they met, the connection was instant. A shared show in Raymond’s American Legion Hall sealed the deal. “We didn’t even realize we were doing a duo show until afterward,” Greene said. “The crowd went crazy. That’s when we knew we had something.”

A chance conversation with Peter Ramsey, President & CEO of The Palace Theatres, opened the next door. Ramsey invited Greene to bring a show to The Rex, and the idea for Edge of Reality took shape. “At first, I thought he wasn’t serious,” Greene said. “It sounded too casual — like, sure, come do a show. But it was real.”

Greene and Adamson designed Edge of Reality to break the traditional “stage vs. audience” barrier. Expect roaming interaction, volunteers, projection screens for close-up effects, and what Adamson calls “shared astonishment.”

“You’ll walk out knowing things about people you’ve never met — and feeling like you experienced something together.”

Though their personalities differ — Greene the showman, Adamson the quiet observer — both studied in Hawaii under renowned mentor and magician Shoot Ogawa, who also trained with America’s Got Talent winner Shin Lim. That shared foundation, they say, keeps them creatively aligned. “We shut down each other’s bad ideas,” Adamson said with a grin. “But we communicate really well.”

Adamson calls magic “an art form like music or painting” — one that triggers an emotion few other performances can match. “It’s that feeling of astonishment — the moment you think, that shouldn’t be possible, but it happened.” Greene adds that the show’s real purpose is connection.

“Magic brings people together,” he said. “You can’t fake that moment of shared wonder.”
