MANCHESTER, NH โ A former nursing assistant is under indictment on 69 felony counts accusing him of sexually abusing 15 children, including patients, while recording the incidents on his cell phone.
A Hillsborough County Superior Court Northern District grand jury indicted Alexander Colbath, 25, of 20 Upland St., on 14 counts of aggravated felonious sexual assault; seven charges of felonious sexual assault; 30 counts of manufacturing child sexual abuse images; 12 counts of possession of child sexual abuse images; five charges of violation of privacy, and one count of indecent exposure.
The alleged incidents date back to Dec. 2022 in New Boston and most recently to Nov. 29, 2025 inside the Elliot Hospital.
Each aggravated felonious sexual assault charge carries a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison; manufacturing child pornography is punishable by 15 to 30 years in prison; while conviction of a felonious sexual assault charge involving a child carries a sentence of 10 to 30 years.
On Nov. 29, 2025, police were called to the Elliot Hospital to investigate allegations that an 8-year-old patient had been sexually assaulted. The child had been admitted to the hospital after complications from surgery a week earlier. Colbath, a licensed nursing assistant, told the child he needed to check her stitches and then allegedly rubbed her genitals with his knuckles.
The child told her mother what allegedly happened and she, in turn, informed hospital staff who called police.
The earliest alleged incident took place on Dec. 12, 2022 in New Boston. According to the indictments, Colbath is accused of making a video of himself as he inserts his finger into the vagina of a child.
On April 23, 2023 in Manchester (the indictment does not indicate whether or not it took place at the Elliot Hospital), Colbath allegedly recorded himself masturbating and then ejaculating into a childโs mouth and also recording him inserting his finger into the childโs genital opening as she urinated. He is accused of making other recordings in May 2023 of the same child in various sexual poses.
While the indictments do not specifically name the Elliot Hospital as the location where the alleged assaults happen, a few indicate the location was a hospital. For instance, in one charge accusing Colbath of manufacturing child sexual abuse images, the indictment states that on July 29, 2025, Colbath took a full body photo of a child โasleep with his hospital gown pulled up and his penis exposed.โ
Colbath is facing similar charges in Merrimack County. On Sept. 7, 2025, a woman called Concord police about Colbath, who she hired to babysit her eight-year-old son and daughters, age 5 and 3.
According to court filings, Colbath babysat the children in May, August, and September 2025.
The mother alleged Colbath gave one of her children a Benadryl and told a potty-trained child to โsoil herself in her diaperโ after she asked to go to the bathroom. One of the children also told investigators that Colbath recorded her while she was using the bathroom.
A search warrant executed on Colbathโs phone revealed videos of two minors going to the bathroom. They also found โvideos of [Colbath] inappropriately touching the children and interacting with them while they urinated and defecated,โ according to court documents.
On Jan. 8, 2026, Concord Police arrested Colbath and charged him with manufacturing child sexual abuse images; felonious sexual assault; violation of privacy, and endangering the welfare of a child โ soliciting sex.
On Dec. 5, 2025, Colbath was arrested by Manchester police in connection with the Nov. 29, 2025 incident at the Elliot.ย Four days later, the New Hampshire Board of Nursing issued an emergency suspension of his nursing assistant license.
According to the New Hampshire Board of Nursing, the emergency suspension was based on findings that Colbath โengaged in inappropriate sexual contact with an eight-year-old child without any medical justification,โ leading regulators to determine that immediate action was necessary to protect public safety.
While the babysitting investigation in Concord was ongoing, investigators discovered other child sexual abuse images allegedly on Colbathโs phone that appeared to have been recorded at the Elliot Hospital.
On Jan. 21, 2026, Manchester police announced additional felony charges against Colbath including 12 additional counts of manufacturing child sex abuse images and 12 counts of possessing child sexual abuse images.ย
