CONCORD, NH — “Families Coping with the Opioid Crisis” – a unique program for families, parents and loved ones impacted by the opioid epidemic – will be coming to Concord on Thursday, September 27, 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 180 Loudon Road.
“Families Coping with the Opioid Crisis” connects families with skilled addiction counselors and invaluable information and resources on substance abuse disorder. Catholic Charities New Hampshire has conducted the program across the state since 2016.
“Early on in this crisis, we recognized that family and friends of loved ones who suffer from opioid addiction need support, too,” said Rev. John Mahoney, Jr., director of clinical services for Catholic Charities New Hampshire. “We use this program as a platform to teach them more productive coping skills, help alleviate their own stress and suffering – and together – reduce the shame and stigma of opioid addiction in the communities we visit.”
The “Families Coping with the Opioid Crisis” presentation focuses on addiction as a disease that affects the family. Topics will include opioids and the brain, signs of opioid use, setting boundaries with an addicted person, effective communication methods and tips to avoid enabling behavior.
The event is free and open to the public. It will consist of a formal presentation followed by a Q&A session.
