MANCHESTER, N.H. – The New Hampshire Fisher Cats head into the Eastern League All-Star Break with a split series against the Portland Sea Dogs, winning 7-2 on Sunday afternoon.
New Hampshire got off to an early start, putting their first run on the board courtesy of Nash Knight’s line drive single, with Vinny Capra coming home on a wild pitch to give the ‘Cats a 2-0 lead by the end of the first.
Portland added runs in the second and third to tie things up, but Forrest Wall’s one-run blast gave New Hampshire back its lead.
Capra and Brock Lundquist combined to power three more runs across the plate in the fourth, and Chad Spanberger’s second home run in as many days made it a five-run lead by the end of the fifth.
Yennsy Diaz got the win, climbing to 7-6 in Eastern League play off six strong innings. Diaz didn’t allow a run, giving up just two hits and two walks, striking out five.
Bryan Mata was the loser for Portland, falling to 1-1 in Eastern League play. Mata allowed six runs off seven hits and three walks in 3 2/3 innings pitched, striking out five.
At the plate, New Hampshire outhit Portland 10-5, with Wall providing three hits and Capra adding a pair of hits.
The Fisher Cats return to action on July 11 as they head to Hartford for the first game in a four-game set against the Yard Goats.
