Fisher Cats head into break by splitting Portland series

MANCHESTER, N.H. โ€“ The New Hampshire Fisher Cats head into the Eastern League All-Star Break with a split series against the Portland Sea Dogs, winning 7-2 on Sunday afternoon.

New Hampshire got off to an early start, putting their first run on the board courtesy of Nash Knightโ€™s line drive single, with Vinny Capra coming home on a wild pitch to give the โ€˜Cats a 2-0 lead by the end of the first.

Portland added runs in the second and third to tie things up, but Forrest Wallโ€™s one-run blast gave New Hampshire back its lead.

Capra and Brock Lundquist combined to power three more runs across the plate in the fourth, and Chad Spanbergerโ€™s second home run in as many days made it a five-run lead by the end of the fifth.

Yennsy Diaz got the win, climbing to 7-6 in Eastern League play off six strong innings. Diaz didnโ€™t allow a run, giving up just two hits and two walks, striking out five.

Bryan Mata was the loser for Portland, falling to 1-1 in Eastern League play. Mata allowed six runs off seven hits and three walks in 3 2/3 innings pitched, striking out five.

At the plate, New Hampshire outhit Portland 10-5, with Wall providing three hits and Capra adding a pair of hits.

The Fisher Cats return to action on July 11 as they head to Hartford for the first game in a four-game set against the Yard Goats.
