MANCHESTER, NH – A former Bedford man is in prison serving a 7 ½ to 15-year sentence after pleading guilty to five counts of domestic violence, one for punching C.P. in the face, causing an orbital fracture, and to another charge of witness tampering.
Calen Peter Kutrubes, 24, formerly of 16 Random Road, was sentenced on Monday by Judge Daniel E. Will in Hillsborough County Superior Court North.
Originally, Kutrubes was indicted on one count each of first-degree assault and witness tampering from an incident that took place on May 5, 2023 at his Bedford home. In that incident, he choked and punched C.P., causing the eye injury. Knowing an investigation was about the begin, he told C.P. not to tell police how the injury happened.
Bedford detectives initially investigated the incident, which was furthered by Hillsborough County Attorney investigators Mark Putney and Sean Ford. The follow-up investigation resulted in the discovery of additional instances of domestic violence occurring over a five-month period.
The sentence was the result of a negotiated plea. Kutrubes is eligible for earned time credit if he participates in programming at the New Hampshire State Prison. When he is released, an additional 3 ½ to 7-years prison sentence will be suspended for ten years.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant County Attorney Justin C. Shepherd of the office’s Special Victims Unit.
“The verdict would not have been possible without the courage, bravery and tenacity of the victim coupled with the dedicated work of Victim Advocate Joanne Leonard, whose guidance and support were immeasurable,” according to the news release.
