MANCHESTER, NH – This summer, students in the Manchester School District will have the opportunity to explore a range of cutting-edge science, technology, engineering and mathematics subjects (STEAM) at no cost through an innovative outreach initiative at UNH Manchester. All subjects are explored through collaborative, hands-on activities and are open to all levels of experience. Applications for this summer are now being accepted.
Running August 3–14, Manchester Tech Camp is a dynamic summer program now in its third year, open to students entering grades 5–12 in Manchester. The camp is part of the broader Manchester CREATES workforce development initiative at UNH Manchester, which aims to strengthen STEAM literacy and expand pathways into New Hampshire’s rapidly growing bioscience sector.
Manchester Tech Camp is offered through the UNH College of Engineering and Physical Sciences, providing students with access to state-of-the-art facilities, advanced technology and award-winning faculty. The program is affiliated with UNH Tech Camp on the Durham campus, a popular summer program that has been inspiring curious learners for close to two decades.
This summer’s offerings include TechSplorers (grades 5–8), a program that introduces students to a variety of STEAM topics by cycling through a variety of hands-on activities. Participants will explore areas such as forensics, circuit-building, freshwater ecology and more.
The TechVoyager program (grades 9 –12) provides students with an immersive learning experience focused on a single topic in science, engineering or technology. This year’s topics include artificial intelligence, anatomy, microbiology and forensics. Throughout the program, participants build subject-matter expertise, strengthen critical-thinking skills and develop a deeper understanding of their chosen subject.
A related paid professional development program for middle and high school STEAM educators called the Manchester Tech for Teachers Institute is also being offered on the UNH Manchester campus this summer. The goal of this program is to build knowledge around regenerative medicine and transform instructional practice through project-based learning. The program will run August 3–August 14, 2026. Applications now being accepted.
Funding for Manchester Tech Camp and the Manchester Tech for Teachers Institute are provided by the U.S. Economic Development Administration as part of a national Build Back Better Regional Challenge grant awarded to the City of Manchester in September of 2022. The focus of this grant is to create a biofabrication cluster in the Manchester Millyard and support scientific research, business development, community partnerships and an array of education and workforce cultivation initiatives.
