Gatos and Chivos and homers, oh my!

MANCHESTER, N.H. โ€“ The New Hampshire Fisher Cats, er, Gatos Feroces de Nueva Hampshire, were defeated Los Chivos de Hartford on Saturday, 3-1 in 10 innings.

While the two teams reinvented themselves for a night as part of Minor League Baseballโ€™s Copa de la Diversion promotion, Saturdayโ€™s game retained the low-scoring theme that has permeated this weekendโ€™s series between these two squads.

Hartford struck first, as Bret Boswell struck a solo shot to right, followed by Gunnar Heidtโ€™s game-tying homer in the ninth.

The deadlock broke in the tenth thanks to a two-RBI double from Hartfordโ€™s Manuel Melendez. Ben Bowden entered in the bottom of the tenth and retired the side in order, giving him his ninth save of the year.

Both starting pitchers went six innings, but neither got a decision with the win going to Heath Holder (2-1) and the loss going to Bryan Baker (1-1).

The Fisher Cats will look to salvage a series split in Sunday’s game at 1:35 p.m. Zach Logue (2-1, 3.54 ERA) will take the mound for New Hampshire against Hartfordโ€™s Rico Garcia (2-0, 1.82 ERA).
