MANCHESTER, NH — On May 30 Pramod Nyaupane, owner of Bunny’s Superette, will be holding a fundraiser at his market, 75 Webster St, in conjunction with the New Hampshire Nepali Community, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
All money raised will go toward Red Cross relief efforts donated through NHNC, which has already collected about $35,000 for the cause.
Nyaupane, originally from Nepal, said most of his family members and friends are still in Nepal, so organizing the fundraiser feels like the least he can do to help.
“We will be collecting donations as well as having an auction of different merchandise and collectibles,” said Nyaupane.
There will also be information available for anyone interested to know more about the post-disaster efforts.
All visitors to the store during the Saturday fundraiser will receive a complimentary soft drink and a bag of chips, says Nyaupane. Donors will be entered to win raffle prizes including NH Lottery tickets, golf passes, Charmingfare Farm passes, gift baskets and other donated merchandise.
May 25 marked one month since a 7.8 magnitude earthquake devastated a large swath of the Himalayan country of Nepal. So far the American Red Cross has deployed 19 highly trained specialists there, prepared to serve in leadership roles during this large-scale disaster recovery effort. They have also spent or committed $9.2 million to the relief efforts, according to Bao Dang of Manchester, who is a volunteer for the American Red Cross.
Red Cross Disaster specialist, Stephen Hagerich, left for Nepal three days after the quake. A month into his deployment, Hagerich took a moment to answer some questions about his time in the disaster zone, which you can watch in the YouTube video below.
