LONDONDERRY, NH – The Attorney General’s office is investigating a fatal shooting involving a Londonderry police officer on Wednesday.
The incident began with police first being called to a Planet Fitness gym on Orchard View Drive in Londonderry for a report of a shot being fired. Officers responded and confirmed that while no one was injured, the individual identified as having fired the gunshot had left the gym.
Officers located identifying information for the individual, an adult male, and developed a name, address, and vehicle description for him. His vehicle was then found nearby, and officers conducted a motor vehicle stop of the car on Winding Pond Road off Orchard View Drive. According to initial police dispatch notes the man in the vehicle was reportedly armed and confronted the officers. During this encounter, several gunshots were fired. The man was struck by the gunfire. Members of the Londonderry Fire Department responded to render medical aid however, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
There is no known threat to the public, and there are no reports of injuries to any individuals or police officers. However, the location of the shooting event on Winding Pond Road in the area of Lincoln Drive is near the entrance to a heavily populated condominium complex and the ongoing investigation has necessitated officers to temporarily close the roadway for the next several hours.
This will significantly impact access to and from the complex, as Winding Pond Road is the only route in or out. Residents are asked to please be patient as investigators work to process the scene. Unless there is an emergency need, the road will remain closed. If emergency assistance is required, please dial 911.
