Judith A. Goonan, 86: From majorette to loving wife, mom and grandmom; a woman of deep faith, quick humor and impeccable style

MANCHESTER, NH โ€“ย Judith A. Goonan, 86, of Manchester, passed away on January 12, 2026, after a period of declining health.

Born in Manchester on November 14, 1939, she was the daughter of Onufry and Mildred (Naczas) Jaroma. A lifelong resident of the Queen City, Judith graduated from Manchester High School Central in 1957, where she proudly served as co-captain of the majorettes.

For 34 years Judith was a unit secretary at Elliot Hospital. Her meticulous work and quick wit left a lasting impression on her colleagues.

A woman of deep faith, Judith was a parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church and later Saint Pius X Church. She was also a member of the Manchester Policemenโ€™s Wives Association.

Judith will be remembered for her caring nature, quick humor, and profound love for her family. She was a thoughtful listener and always offered wise words of encouragement. Known for her impeccable style, she found joy in interior decorating and loved to shop. She was an avid reader who enjoyed crossword puzzles, as well as Irish and polka music. Time spent at the beach, especially during summers in her little cottage at Place Cove in Hampton, held a special place in her heart.

Her greatest devotion was to her children and grandchildren, who were a source of immense pride and joy. Judith leaves a legacy of love and steadfast devotion to family. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 49 years, Daniel A. Goonan, in 2011. She was also predeceased by her grandson, Brendan Ouellette; her sister, Helen Egan; and her niece, Janyce Egan.ย 

Family members include two sons, Daniel A. Goonan and his wife, Denise, and Michael O. Goonan and his wife, Elizabeth, all of Manchester; two daughters, Virginia A. Goonan of Manchester and her partner, Hubert Buffalo, and Erin K. Goonan and her partner, Darrell Brown, of Alexandria, VA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Emily, Molly, Nathaniel, Joshua, Isaiah, Luke, Micah, Naomi, Ella, and Emmett; and one great-granddaughter, Everly.

Services: Calling hours are Monday, January 19, 2026, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Connor-Healy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 537 Union Street, Manchester, NH 03104.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, January 20, 2026, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in Saint Pius X Church, 575 Candia Road, Manchester, NH 03109.

Burial will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford, NH.
