CONCORD, NH — Kelley Stelling Contemporary, a new contemporary art gallery in downtown Manchester, will curate a show at the Robert M. Larsen Gallery at the law firm of Sulloway & Hollis in Concord.
“Mixtape” brings together eight outstanding artists that Kelley Stelling Contemporary has exhibited in its first nine months from around New England, and as far afield as New York and New Orleans. Like a mixtape you used to make in high school back in the day to collect your favorite music, the show intends to mix together some striking art and to introduce the gallery and its artists to the greater Concord community.
The show contains works in a variety of media and styles with an over-arching theme of meticulous craft and exuberance. Large-scale works focusing on African-American culture of New Orleans, pre-Columbian sculpture fragments grafted onto kitsch figurines, surrealist and gothic sharks and lobsters, ultra-realist and meticulous paintings of deconstructed origami paper, fantastical and brightly rendered diagrams of firearms, photorealist paintings of money, and a menagerie of tattoo-inspired mythic creatures are just a few of the types of pieces featured.
In its 25-year-history, the Robert M. Larsen Gallery has become one of the most well-known corporate art galleries in New Hampshire. Recent shows have included works by prominent alumni of the New Hampshire Institute of Art, a survey of emerging painters, photographs of the 2016 New Hampshire primary, and award winners of the New Hampshire Chapter of the American Institute of Art.
