MANCHESTER, NH – Here in New Hampshire the League of Women Voters is dedicated to inform and activate citizen participation through scrutiny of public policy, education and advocacy. It is a non-partisan effort. Below is a list of current legislation on the League’s “watch list.”

The right to vote was a hard-won endeavor for our foremothers. The duty to be informed on the issues is the greatest way to honor those who devoted themselves to women’s equality through having and exercising their voices in government matters at the local and national levels.
LWV-NH is supporting, opposing or following a number of the bills currently in the Legislature, considered “priority bills.” The public is urged to attend the hearings and learn about League advocacy.
Tuesday, January 19
ELECTION LAW, Room 308, LOB
10:30 a.m. HB 1313-FN, relative to eligibility to vote and relative to availability of voter information.
⇒LWVNH opposes this legislation because it is unconstitutional. The Supreme Court has ruled that states cannot require a citizen who is qualified to vote to wait for a period of time before being allowed to vote.
10:40 a.m. HB 1356, relative to construction of the terms “resident” and “inhabitant.”
⇒LWVNH opposes this legislation because it tries to get around the NH Constitution’s guarantee of the right to vote by redefining who lives in NH.
2:30 p.m. or immediately following the public hearing on HB 1682, (2:15 p.m.) subcommittee work session on HB 1564- FN-A, establishing an independent redistricting commission
