Man dead after police pursuit in area of Mammoth Road for ‘suspicious vehicle’

MANCHESTER, NH – One person is dead after police say there was a foot pursuit, which led to a man being shot and killed by police.

The New Hampshire Attorney Generalโ€™s Office and state police Major Crime are investigating the shooting that took place in the area of South Mammoth Road.

The AGโ€™s Office says that the incident reportedly occurred after police responded to the area off South Mammoth Road in Manchester for a report of a suspicious vehicle. A pursuit ensued, which ended with a motor vehicle crash and a man fleeing from the scene on foot from the police.

The man was shot in the area of 293 South Mammoth Road. Life-saving measures were attempted, and the man was transported to the hospital, where he later died. 

Police were initially dispatched for a “suspicious vehicle” according to Manchester police logs at Tougas and Aurore avenues, which is an area near the Green Acres and McLaughlin Schools. 

The ambulance was dispatched just after 5 a.m. to the area of 100 Jack Lovering Avenue, which is the location of Green Acres School.

Several locations in the area are closed off by crime-scene tape; this is an active investigation that is just beginning for authorities.

A pursuit ensued which ended with a motor vehicle crash and an adult male fleeing the scene. A foot pursuit followed and in a subsequent encounter with police in the area of 293 South Mammoth Road the adult male was shot. Life saving measures were attempted and the male was transported to the hospital where he later died.

The investigation by the New Hampshire Department of Justice and the New Hampshire State Police Major Crime Unit into the officer-involved shooting is ongoing. An autopsy is being scheduled, and the identity of the individual shot will be released after it is completed.

The identity of the officers who used deadly force will not be disclosed until formal interviews take place. The exact circumstances surrounding this incident are now under active investigation.
