Man door-knocking on West Side in wee hours charged with prowling, resisting arrest

MANCHESTER, NH – A city man was arrested early Oct. 24 after police investigated a report of a “suspicious man stumbling around” on Cartier Street.

At 1:50 a.m. on Wednesday Nathaniel Kitchen, 31, of Manchester, was arrested and charged with loitering/prowling and resisting arrest/detention based on the following police narrative:

Officer Matthew Nocella was called to 400 block of Cartier St. just before 2 a.m. for an unknown man who was knocking on the caller’s door. The man was later identified as Kitchen, who left that address and began walking in and out of the neighbor’s yard, according to the original caller.

Officer Nocella located Kitchen as he staggered in the middle of Cartier Street, between Amory and Kelly streets. Kitchen allegedly refused to show the officer his hands as he walked away from the officer. Officer Nocella once again attempted to speak with Kitchen who, according to police, “actively resisted the officer as he attempted to place him into custody.” Both the officer and Kitchen ended up on the ground as the officer attempted to place Kitchen into custody. A second officer arrived on scene and helped place Kitchen into custody. A spring-loaded knife was removed from Kitchen during a search incident prior to arrest.

Police say Kitchen “continued his non-compliant behavior with the officers” when he attempted to break free from the officer as he was placed into the transport wagon. Kitchen also “remained non-compliant” during the booking process, so he was transported to Hillsborough County House of Correction before the officers could finish the booking procedure.

He was charged with loitering/prowling and resisting arrest/detention. He is scheduled to appear in the 9th Circuit Court-Manchester on October 24, 2018.
