Man found sleeping in car outside courthouse arrested for heroin possession

MANCHESTER, NH โ€“ A city man found sleeping in his car behind the Superior Court building was arrested June 11, charged with possession of a controlled drug, heroin.

At about 12:25 a.m. Thursday, Manchester Bicycle Officerโ€™s Clifford Ellston and Michael Caron were in the area of Veteranโ€™s Park when they noted aย vehicle parked behind Hillsborough County Superior Court North, 300 Chestnut Street.

The officerโ€™s peddled up to the 1995 BMW and sawย a manย sleeping in the front passengerโ€™s seat, later identified as Alex Clancy, 25, of Manchester. They also observed a backpack and utility knife next to him while checkingย his condition.

Clancy exited the vehicle and consented to a search. Officer Ellston located inside Clancy’s front pants pocket a capped hypodermic needle and a small plastic bag (.1 grams) of heroin. Based on the items found, the officers were given consent to check the contents of Clancyโ€™s backpack.

Officers located another hypodermic needle, .8 grams of heroin (estimated street value $80) and other drug paraphernalia commonly used for injecting heroin. Clancy was placed into custody and transported to police headquarters. He was booked without incident and charged with: possession of a controlled drug, as well asย violation of bail conditions for a case involving an unarmed robbery.

He was scheduled to appear in the 9th Circuit Court-Manchester on June 11, 2015.
