MANCHESTER, NH โ What does 20 percent of your income mean to you? Probably a whole lot.
To Members First Credit Union, it means a lot, too. Enough, in fact, to realize the good it could do for the communities in which it serves. Thatโs why Members First has decided to give 20 percent of its 2018 net income to local non-profit organizations that work tirelessly to help those in need. This year, it plans to donate $114,000 above and beyond funds it normally sets aside for annual community giving.
Itโs not unlike Members First to display such a generous spirit.
Last year, it chose to give away the rebate it received from the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) โ a refund that all credit unions across the country received. The $109,300 Members First received went to organizations that help at-risk youth and people struggling with substance use disorder.
โIt was a no-brainer to take the opportunity to help make the community a better place for everyone,โ said Bruce Leighton, president and CEO, Members First Credit Union. โWe saw the impact last yearโs donations had on the community thanks to the NCUA rebate and wanted to do it again โ with or without the refund.โ
Together, the NCUA rebate along with funds already set aside for planned giving brought their total charitable contributions in 2018 to $190,000. โAlthough we know our donations made a difference, it doesnโt mean thereโs an end to the issues these organizations continue to face,โ said Leighton. โThatโs why we plan to direct this yearโs donations to charities with similar missions.โ
