Miller lifts Monarchs to 3-2 win in OT

    Screenshot 2015-02-21 at 11.03.35 PMMANCHESTER, NH – The Monarchs fell behind by two goals for the second straight night, but came out with a 3-2 overtime win against the IceCaps on Saturday night thanks to a game-winning goal from Colin Miller.

    “We needed [two points] after dropping one last night,” Miller said. “I think it was a good push after going down 1-0.  We just stayed calm and fought back hard to get the win.”

    Miller also scored the game-tying goal in the third period, marking the second time this season he had multiple goals in a game (alsoNov. 1 vs. STJ).

    It marked the first time this season the Monarchs won at home when trailing after two periods (1-4-0-0).

    Eric O’Dell started the scoring for St. John’s with a goal 3:37 into the game.

    St. John’s would make it a 2-0 lead when Scott Kosmachuk was left alone in front of the net to put a back hander in.

    David Van der Gulik put the Monarchs on the board at 11:56 in the second period. It was his 11th goal of the season.

    Manchester tied the score on the man advantage at 10:10 in the third when Miller scored his team-high eighth power-play goal of the season.

    The teams went to overtime for the second time in as many nights, but Miller ended the game with a slap shot at 6:30 in the extra frame.

    The Monarchs close out their three-game weekend with a 3 p.m. game against the Sharks Feb. 22.


    Notes:

    • Andrew Bodnarchuk is on a season-high four-game point streak, tallying two goals and four assists in that time.
    • Brian O’Neill (assist) extended his point streak to a season-best eight games (5 goals, 6 assists) beginning on Feb. 4.
    • Jeff Schultz (assist) registered his first AHL point since Dec. 13 at WOR.
    • PatrikBartosak left the game late in the third period due to injury.
