Monarchs’ early goals beat Maine

PORTLAND, Maine โ€“ The Manchester Monarchs earned a crucial win over the Maine Mariners on Friday night, returning to New Hampshire with a 2-1 victory.

Monarchs Goaltender Charles Williams finished the night with 37 saves, with only Greg Chaseโ€™s goal getting past him.

That goal was preceded by an opening stanza goal by Jack Nevins from the left circle, followed by what the game-winning goal by Nic Pierog with just under three minutes left in the first period.

Manchester (20-18-1-1) is now 3-6 on the year against Maine (20-18-0-1), with just one point separating the teams in the middle of the ECHL North Division standings.

Both teams play again on Saturday in Manchester with puck drop scheduled for 6 p.m.
