When does a hug become a crime? I was working in my back yard, Sunday afternoon Nov. 19 2017, when I heard the officer call to me. He was holding a rifle in ready position facing my direction when he told me to go into to the my house.ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Once inside
After being arrested for a hug and accused of two crimes I was taken to MPD headquarters. Processed, booked and locked up, all for hugging. Our local police authorities came to the conclusion I should be prosecuted for loving my neighbor. Our neighborhood was occupied by SWAT and other officers totaling 22 by their count. We were cut off by police cars and vans along with their Bear Cat and had no access in or out. We were told to go inside our home and go to the basement. This force expected us to idly stand by and watch while our neighbor’s life was in jeopardy. His blood shed would be a small price to pay for the safety and security they provide.
I thank God his blood was not shed and only God knows what was to happen without substantial interference that Sunday afternoon. My neighbor reflected several weeks later, the outcome of that day could have been very different. Reasonable to believe that day could have easily been his last…
