New report analyzes last year’s community zoning meetings

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The City of Manchester is developing the fourth set of zoning ordinances in its history, with 12 community meetings about the proposal spread across the city’s 12 wards last year. Anyone that missed the first of those meetings, the last of those meetings, or any of the ten in-between is now in luck as a 63-page report has been released recapping all of the data provided from the over 1,000 people that attended those meetings.

Authored by the University of New Hampshire Extension, the report provides a primarily qualitative analysis of the dialogue, ideas and opinions given throughout those meetings, with that data going on to influence an updated draft of the proposed set of ordinances to be revealed in the near future.

“I want to thank the thousands of Manchester residents who participated in the (online) survey and the community meetings,” said Manchester Department of Planning and Community Development Director Jeff Belanger. “You gave your time to tell us what you thought, and we heard you. Your comments are going to make a real difference to the final draft of the zoning ordinance.”

Belanger is scheduled to provide a presentation summarizing the report at the Jan. 21, 2025 Board of Mayor and Aldermen Meeting. A copy of the report and additional information can be found at manchesternh.gov/landusecode
